The second test of Ashes 2013 has both teams fighting tooth and nail to become ‘Lords’ of the ring. The ring in this case is the battle ring, “The Lord’s”.
After the first two days play England seem to be the favourites. After winning the toss, England chose to bat first. After a disastrous start of 28/3 England recovered with a fine partnership between centurion Bell and young Bairstow. Bairstow was lucky to be bowled of a no ball by Siddle which cost the Aussies dear.
At the end of first day’s play, it was even stevens thanks to Steven Smith who took 3 wickets and at end of play England were 289/7.
On day 2 Englang tail offered resistance and they added 72 more runs to end their innings at 361. New man Ryan Harris took five wickets.
Aussies played poorly and were bowled for a paltry 128 with Swann taking five. But once again the DRS technology was talk of the town due to its poor effectiveness.
But as it has been in this series so far, there were more twists to come. England did not enforce the follow on and came out to bat again only to finish the day at 31/3 with Siddle taking 3 wickets.
England are still favourites due to their first innings lead and are 264 runs ahead.
Let us all keep watching this roller coaster match where fortunes have swung dramatically for both sides to see who eventually will be the “Lords of the ring”!!
